![]() ![]() What’s really awesome is the included illustrated insert that makes the TARDIS look like it actually has its interior, something that CO didn’t bother doing with their Classic 5-inch scale TARDIS. The front doors are on hinges so that they can open in or out, while the rest of the TARDIS walls are each one sculpted piece. The TARDIS itself is comprised of 45 pieces, several of which are pretty specific to this model. Still, these little time travelers look like they have more in common with the popular Imaginext line of figures than Legos, which is cool as it gives them a certain personality all their own. Each figure is aggressively cute and The Doctor even comes with a Sonic Screwdriver accessory. Also unlike Lego’s minifigs, these feature character specific sculpts, rather than relying more on illustrated generic pieces. Surprisingly, the minifigs come pre-assembled in their baggies, but they can each break down into seven pieces, which is about the same as most of Lego’s minifigs. ![]() As always, let’s start with the minifigs… Open up the box and you spill out two baggies of bricks, two individually bagged minifigs of The 11th Doctor and Amy Pond, an instruction booklet, a sticker sheet, and an illustrated insert that makes up the interior of the TARDIS. The box is illustrated with the completed version of what you’re getting inside, along with an actual size shot of the Doctor minifig and the Series 5-6 style Doctor Who logo. ![]() The set comes in a little box similar in size to Lego’s own smaller assortment sets in the $10 range. What’s the additional point? She can actually swivel at the waist, but still no hinge for the ab crunch. She also has that extra pivot in the feet to allow her to have a wide stance. Her legs have universal movement in the hips and hinges in the knees and ankles. That means a ball jointed neck, and arms with universal joints in the shoulders, hinged elbows, and swivels in the biceps and wrists. Teela features standard female articulation for the line with one nice addition. The sword is a nice, simple design with a broad triangular blade and a straight crossguard. I was a little irked that the barrel on mine was warped in the package, but it’s managed to straighten out fairly well. I really like the sculpt used for the laser pistol and the silver finish fits it nicely. The whole mix of swords and technology has always been one of my favorite things about the MOTU universe, so I’m always happy to see a figure come with both a gun and a blade. Teela comes with two accessories: A laser pistol and a sword. ![]()

![]() Unfortunately, that’s just 3.6% of our commercial airports. As of September 2022, there were more than 500 CT scanners deployed at 180 airports in the United States. The TSA has also invested in CT technology over the past few years and is slowly installing the new scanners at our 5,000 public-use airports. So where does that leave us here in the good ol’ U.S. In July, 2022, another airport announced the use of CT scanners, meaning the end of passengers carrying small bottles of liquids in their carry-on.Īmsterdam Schiphol has actually been using the technology for even longer – since 2020 – but the airport advises that passengers still use 100-milliliter containers, to avoid problems when flying to other jurisdictions. Liquids (and electronics) at that airport can now remain in carry-on bags at the security checkpoint, and there are no restrictions on liquid volume. In fact, in March, 2022, the first airport in the world ended its version of the 3-1-1 rule. Thanks to the improvement of computed tomography (CT) technology, airport security agents with CT scanners can have a much clearer view of what’s in your carry-on bag. The thing is, since that post was written, technology around the world has improved dramatically. Regardless, it’s been well over a decade since it was originally written, and 3-1-1 continues. Meanwhile, fast forward to today, and Hawley’s blog post is gone. At the time, Elliott said, “The 3-1-1 rule isn’t scheduled to be lifted until the end of this year, when X-Ray machines at security checkpoints will have upgraded software proven to detect threat liquids in any configuration.” By May 2010, Christopher Elliott said on NBC News that it still hadn’t happened. In 2008, Hawley, on the agency’s blog, in a piece called “path forward on liquids,” suggested that 3-1-1 restrictions could be loosened as early as sometime in 2009, and they would remove the size limits on liquids in carry-ons. Unfortunately, it was part of the “legacy/obituary” for the guy who had been the TSA Administrator at the time, Kip Hawley. (By the way, this quick explanation of how the TSA managed to start the liquid ban, OVERNIGHT, is pretty fascinating. It’s been like that at just about every commercial airport around the world, ever since. Initially, we weren’t allowed to carry ANY liquids or gels in our carry-on bags but that was eventually revised to allow small amounts under 100mls/3.4 ounces. At that time, British authorities reportedly stopped a plot to blow up planes headed for the United States with liquid explosives. They are limited to 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item (well, with these 10+ exceptions ) In the United States, the TSA says y ou’re only been allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes through the checkpoint. We now laugh about it every time we fly eight years later, thankfully. The air travel world has been living with the “3-1-1 liquids rule” (or its country-specific equivalent) for a long time now. The TSA agents ahead even heard the story by the time we reached the scanners, which definitely helped us bring our heart rates back to normal. Thankfully, he found it funny and then told us the German Shepherd was still new and hadn’t seen a dog come through in a carrier before us (only service animals who are never in carriers). The officer laughed, and you could feel the tension leave the air all around us (and hear lots of chuckles). ![]() ![]() My BF then turns the rolling bag around to show it holds my 10-lb., white, fluffy terrier mix through the mesh screen. My BF finally comes to his senses and almost screams, 'It’s my dog!' The officer doesn’t understand immediately and still has a hand on his holster. The officer becomes confused by the dog now straining at its leash (not part of an alert I assume). "I realized what was happening and turned around confused, and the dog started struggling to reach my boyfriend’s rolling bag. When the line came to a stop, the dog sat right by my BF (apparently, this is an alert), and the officer immediately began to aggressively question my BF about what drugs he had, and my BF froze like a deer in headlights, completely silent." A new scanner opened up, and the line moved forward at least 30 people, so we started walking around the area pretty quickly to keep up with the line, and almost immediately, the officer and dog started following my boyfriend. A security officer and a German Shepherd were patrolling in the open area we were being guided around. I was walking in front of my BF because he still wasn’t familiar with airports at that point. Security lines were longer than normal, and they were diverted around an open area. By 1940, it had sold some 6 million copies there. It sold modestly at first, but with Hitler’s rise it became Germany’s best-selling book after the Bible. Hitler would finish the second volume of "Mein Kampf" after his release, while relaxing in the mountain village of Berchtesgaden. In it, Hitler expanded on the nationalistic, anti-Semitic views he had begun to develop in Vienna in his early twenties, and laid out plans for the Germany-and the world-he sought to create when he came to power. During this period, he began to dictate the book that would become " Mein Kampf" (“My Struggle”), the first volume of which was published in 1925. Tried for treason, Hitler was sentenced to five years in prison, but would serve only nine months in the relative comfort of Landsberg Castle. Even though it failed spectacularly, the Beer Hall Putsch established Hitler as a national figure, and (in the eyes of many) a hero of right-wing nationalism. Hitler fled quickly, but he and other rebel leaders were later arrested. Wielding a revolver, Hitler proclaimed the beginning of a national revolution and led marchers to the center of Munich, where they got into a gun battle with police. On the evening of November 8, 1923, members of the SA and others forced their way into a large beer hall where another right-wing leader was addressing the crowd. Many dissatisfied former army officers in Munich would join the Nazis, notably Ernst Röhm, who recruited the “strong arm” squads-known as the Sturmabteilung (SA)-which Hitler used to protect party meetings and attack opponents. Printed in a white circle on a red background, Hitler’s swastika would take on terrifying symbolic power in the years to come.īy the end of 1921, Hitler led the growing Nazi Party, capitalizing on widespread discontent with the Weimar Republic and the punishing terms of the Versailles Treaty. In one of Hitler’s strokes of propaganda genius, the newly renamed National Socialist German Workers Party, or Nazi Party, adopted a version of the swastika-an ancient sacred symbol of Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism-as its emblem. His skilled oratory and charismatic energy helped propel him in the party’s ranks, and in 1920 he left the army and took charge of its propaganda efforts. ![]() Like many Germans, Hitler came to believe the country’s devastating defeat could be attributed not to the Allies, but to insufficiently patriotic “traitors” at home-a myth that would undermine the post-war Weimar Republic and set the stage for Hitler’s rise.Īfter Hitler returned to Munich in late 1918, he joined the small German Workers’ Party, which aimed to unite the interests of the working class with a strong German nationalism. A month later, he was recuperating in a hospital at Pasewalk, northeast of Berlin, when news arrived of the armistice and Germany’s defeat in World War I. Hitler was wounded twice during the conflict: He was hit in the leg during the Battle of the Somme in 1916, and temporarily blinded by a British gas attack near Ypres in 1918. The total electric flux is F = – F 1 + F 2 = -EA + EA = 0.īased on the above calculations, it was concluded that the total electric flux passing through the beam as in the figure above is zero. Quantitatively, the resultant electric flux passing through the beam is calculated in the following way: incoming electrical flux = F 1 = – EA cos 0 o = – EA (1) = -EA and outgoing electric flux = F 2 = + EA cos 0 o = + EA (1) = + E A. Qualitatively, if the amount of electric field lines that enter the beam is equal to the number of electric field lines coming out of the beam, the resultant electric flux is zero. Conversely, when the electric field lines move out of the beam as if there is a positive charge inside the beam, the electric flux is positive. When the electric field lines move into the beam as if there is a negative charge inside the beam, the electric flux is negative. In the figure above, visible red lines of the electric field move into the beam and then move out of the beam. Thus, the electric flux is F = E A cos 0 o = E A (1) = E A. The electric field lines are given a red perpendicular to the front and back surfaces of the beam so that they create a 0 o angle with the normal line of the front and rear surfaces. Thus, the electric flux on the right and left side of the beam is F = E A cos 90 o = E A (0) = 0. The electric field lines which are given a yellow color coincide with the right and left side surfaces of the beam so that they create an angle of 90 o with the normal line of the left and right side surfaces. Thus, the electric flux on the upper and lower surfaces of the beam is F = E A cos 90 o = E A (0) = 0. The electric field lines which are colored in blue coincide with the upper and lower surfaces of the beam so that they form an angle of 90 o with the normal line of the upper and lower surfaces. How do electric fluxes on closed surfaces such as cubes, beams, or balls? Suppose there are electric field lines that pass through the beam, as shown below. The electric charge described earlier uses an example of an open surface (square or rectangular surface area). In addition to the square-shaped surface area as in the example above, the surface area can also be spherical and others. Third, the electric flux depends on the electric field (E) and the surface area (A). Second, the electric flux is minimum when the electric field line is parallel to the surface area because at this condition the angle between the electric field line and the normal line is 90 o, where the cosine 90 o is 0. First, the electric flux is maximum when the electric field line is perpendicular to the surface area because at this condition the angle between the electric field line and the normal line is 0o, where the cosine 0o is 1. ![]() Thus, the formula for electric flux changes to:īased on the formula, the electric flux above concluded several things. ![]() If the electric field lines are perpendicular to the surface area they pass as in the figure, then the angle between the electric field line and the normal line is 0 o, where cos 0 o = 1. Mathematically, electrical flux is the product of the electric field (E), surface area (A) and the cosine of the angle between the electric field line and the normal line perpendicular to the surface. So electric flux is an electric field line that passes a specific surface area, as exemplified in the figure below. ![]() Regarding electric field lines, it has been explained that the electric field is visualized or drawn using electric field lines, and hence electric fluxes are also described as electric field lines. The word flow here does not show an electric field flowing like flowing water, but explains the existence of an electric field that leads to a particular direction. Electrical flux can be interpreted as an electric field flow. The word flux is derived from the Latin word, fluere, which means to flow. Before studying Gauss law in depth, first understood that electric flux because of the concept of electric flux used in Gauss law. If what is calculated is the electric field strength generated by an electric charge distribution, the calculation is more complicated if the formula for electric field strength is used, but it is easier to use Gauss’s law. The calculation of the electric field strength produced by an electric charge or two electric charges is easily solved using the formula of electric field strength. Regarding the electric field, has been discussed the definition and equation of the electric field which can be used to calculate the electric field strength produced by an electric charge, some electric charge or by an electric charge distribution. ![]() ![]() Imagine an age before YouTube videos and on-demand streaming.
